Drysdale Primary School

2018 Classes

Over the next few weeks we will be creating classes for 2018.  This is a complex and lengthy process.  This year we are going high tech and using a computer program linked to our Sentral management system to help work through the many permutations.  As a consequence of using this program there are some similarities and some changes to the arrangements we have used in previous years.  Our aim is to place the children in a class where we think that they will learn best while maintaining a broad balance between the classes of boys and girls, friendship groups and the spread of abilities.

* If you know that you will be leaving Drysdale Primary School, other than children in Year 6, please can you let us know as soon as possible.

* Early next week we will send home a proforma for families to use to let us know the names of five other children in their year group with whom they would like to be in class with next year.  This proforma will need to have been returned to school by Thursday afternoon (October 26th).  Children for whom we have not received a proforma by the end of Thursday will be asked to complete the form in school on Friday.  Our aim is to place every child with at least one of their preferred five friends and ideally more than one.  The school staff will also factor in good working groups and combinations that do not work well together based on our knowledge of the children.

* There is no scope in this program to include a preference of teacher.  The more potential variants that exist, the greater the likelihood that we will not be able to meet all the many and varied preferences.  Given that all the teachers at Drysdale Primary provide a high quality of teaching, it is sensible to prioritise the preferences for friendship groups.

Geelong Show School Art Display

Every second year we enter a selection of our children’s art work in the Geelong Show Schools’ Art Show.  This alternates with our own school art show in even numbered years.  If you visit the Geelong Show you can find our children’s art work in the Schools Art Exhibition building.  Our students, under the expert teaching of Melinda Henderson, Liz Miles and Bronwyn Osborne, produce some amazingly creative pieces that show a fantastic range of skills and diverse forms.

This Friday in preparation for the school’s Spring Fair on Friday November 10th we are inviting our children to come to school in casual dress.  The children will still need their hats.  In return we would like the children to fill the paper bag sent home yesterday as a contribution to a Lucky Cup stall.

Term 4 marks the beginning of Sun Smart season.  Already the UV, even on cloudy days is high during the middle of the day when the children are outside.  It is a requirement of Sun Smart schools that children wear a broad brimmed hat during recess and lunchtime.  It is also good practice for children to wear sunscreen.

Spring Fair – Friday 10th November, 2017 – News

This year for our Spring Fair we are introducing a Lucky Cup Stall. We are asking each student to bring in $2.00 worth of goodies that can be parcelled up into cups. The cups will have raffle tickets placed on them. On the day of the Fair, students pay $3.00 to choose a raffle ticket from a bucket. They then go and find the cup with the same raffle ticket on it to see what they have won.

It would be very much appreciated if you could fill the paper bag, that was sent home yesterday, with any items from the following list or any items you feel the children would enjoy receiving.

Please ensure that all items being donated are NEW:

School Magazine Front Cover Competition

As previously mentioned at assembly, this year there will be a photography competition to determine the front cover of the school magazine. Students wishing to have their photography considered for the front cover need to submit their photograph on a USB stick to Miss Stark by this Friday 20th October. USB sticks will be returned one week later. Photos don’t have to fit with any theme so students can be as creative as they like. We can’t wait to see what snaps you take!
