In our absence the school’s Leading Teachers, Mrs Black and Mr Page, will be Acting Principal on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. Please refer urgent matters that cannot be dealt with by your child’s class teacher to them.

Start of Term 3 – Pupil Free Day, Monday 17th July

The teachers and other staff return to school on Monday July 17th. This is a pupil free day; so the children are back in school on Tuesday July 18th.

During our pupil free day, the staff will be learning about the third of the four Kids Matter components. We are aiming to complete all four components within two years. While it is important for the staff to complete the components, the real work is making changes to our practices and embedding those changes into Drysdale Primary School. The final two components are: Working with Parents and Carers and Helping Children Experiencing Mental Health Difficulties. We expect to tackle the final component in the first part of next year.

Paperless Reports

The end of Semester 1 reports will be published electronically on our Parent Portal in the last week of this term. The Parent Portal is the same place where you can book appointments at the end of Terms 1 and 3 for Parent Teacher Interviews.

Please make sure that you can log into this portal. Staff in the office will be able to help you if you have difficulty. It will be helpful if you can check your log in is correct over the next week, so that we are not inundated with requests for help in that last week.

Report Changes

There are some changes to reports this semester. Mostly these are the result of changes made centrally to the expectations of how schools write reports. The most significant change is that we are no longer required to report a rating. This was the letter A, B, C, D or E attached to your child’s assessment level. This is a good decision as it means we no longer have to report that a child who is meeting all expectations is a C.

We will continue to make a very specific comment in the text of the report about how well your child is performing in comparison to this expectation and how much progress has been made since this time last year. Both of these are required statements and key to providing real clarity about your child’s performance over the last year. There will still be a visual representation of standards and progress.

The change that we are making internally is to report subjects other than English and Maths under a single heading. This is because we are moving towards an inquiry model of teaching in which we are grouping these other subjects under a single big idea. The Victorian Curriculum is organised in these subjects into a two year cycle. This fits well with an inquiry approach to teaching and learning. We will continue to provide a clear indication of the next steps of learning for all children. We will also continue to encourage parents and children to provide a comment in response to their report.

Fresh Fruit Friday

Even though we request parent volunteers from each year level each week, if you have time to spare on a Friday morning we would love your help. We have a couple of parents who volunteer every Friday that would love some help.

This Friday 16th June we are asking for parent volunteers of Prep students to help cut up fruit. If you can assist, please sign in at the office and come to the staff room at 9am.

The following Friday 23th June we are asking for parent volunteers of Year 1 students to help cut up fruit.

Thank you to the Bendigo Bank for sponsoring our school’s fresh fruit.
