Drysdale Primary School

School Photos

Our School photographs are being taken on Wednesday this week. Each student will have an individual photograph and a class photograph taken.

Please remember that for school photographs you need to wear our formal school uniform. This means that you cannot wear a Hawks top as this is only an option in our informal uniform.

Information was sent home through the Link over the last couple of weeks. Orders for individual and class photos can be made online up to May 13th.

Family photos need to have been ordered and paid for by midnight tonight, May 2nd, as advertised in the information provided previously.

Parking – Stonehouse Place

We are still experiencing issues with parking in and around the school. This is a difficulty for all Schools especially large schools in residential areas.

There is an issue for us with parents parking on the grass next to the tennis courts on Stonehouse Place. With the wet weather, this is leaving tyre tracks across the grass.

The School is not responsible for parking outside our boundaries although it clearly affects our community including our neighbours in houses bordering the School.

Please be aware that City of Greater Geelong parking officers have been asked by local residents to attend the area around the School including Stonehouse Place to enforce parking restrictions.

Hand completing a multiple choice exam.

The National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy tests for children in Years 3 and 5 are scheduled for next week. The tests run during the mornings of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, May 9th to 11th inclusive.

The test results provide broad information to parents about their children’s progress in comparison to children of a similar age in other Schools across Australia. Collectively they provide information to the School and the Education Department about how we are performing.

School Uniform

Please can I remind everyone about the revised School Uniform Policy. The School’s uniform is gold (yellow) and brown.

The only exception to this is that children are permitted to wear black leggings or tights with the winter kilt.

Wearing black leggings or tights beneath a summer dress or black leggings or trousers on their own are not a part of the School’s uniform and must not be worn. Children can wear something underneath a summer dress provided it does not appear below the hem line of the dress.

At the same time the Policy has been updated to include a Hawks sweat shirt as part of the School’s Informal Uniform.

These revisions to the previous policy were approved by School Council on March 21st.  Information has been included in many copies of the Link last term including prior to March 21st as advance notice.

Last week our School Captains, Indiana and Mitchell, and Vice Captains, Lizzy and Max, represented the School at three ANZAC Commemorations.

On Friday 21st April Mitchell and Indiana travelled in to Johnstone Park to attend the Geelong Schools Commemoration. On Monday 24th April Max and Lizzy visited Drysdale Grove. Tuesday 25th April all four captains took part in the Drysdale Community Commemoration.

I would like to thank them for their commitment to the School and the community and to thank them for the clarity with which they read.

I would also like to acknowledge the work done by Mr Page, Mr Kennedy and the Year 6 students in making sure that our School hall was ready.

School Review Questionnaire

A few parents have told me that they did not receive a copy of the questionnaire sent home recently. These were sent home as a paper copy with the oldest child in each family. If you did not receive a copy, please call at the office and ask for a replacement.

Please can any questionnaires that have not yet been returned be put in the box outside the office by the middle of this week, as I need to have analysed the replies and drafted my report to our School Council by the early part of next week.

Thank you.

Spring Fair

This year, the Annual DPS Spring Fair will be held on Friday November 10th from 3.30-7.30pm and we can’t wait for you to join us for a night of fun, food and stalls!

The Fair Committee are already planning and organising all the details of the day, but need your help! We are asking for one representative from each class to be the convenor for their grade. This isn’t a big job, but one that will really help the team to make the event a success and contribute towards the school’s fundraising.

Camp Australia – Out of School Hours Care

Despite it being a shorter than normal week we have been very busy at OSHC. We commemorated ANZAC day by having ANZAC biscuits, making paper poppies and discussing the importance of commemorating the service and sacrifices of the men and women who are or were within the Armed Services. We also discussed why we use poppies, and the children learned about the Purple Poppy, which is used to remember and commemorate the animals of the armed services.
